Over the last couple of month we have been working hard to develop our product and business. To demonstrate our keywording technology we have build several demos. Doing so we came up with many labels:

Our core technology, a restful webservice that enables the integration of advanced keywording features to any kind of software, has been labeled Keyword Service, Keywording Webservice or Keywording as a Service.

To show how easy it is to integrate our keywording features into existing applications we have made two exemplary integrations. The first one, a  keywording and photo tagging plugin for Aperture, has been named Annotator for Aperture (shortname tag).

Our browser based keywording tool has been labeled Webtag. Read on to learn about our new product name.

New product name

Sometimes all those labels have been confusing even for us. But we want things to be clear and simple and so it was obvious that it was time to rethink the names! The new names were supposed to be simple and informative. We also wanted to point out that all the demos and exemplary integrations utilize the same core technology that is our webservice. This core webservice sends autocompletions and keyword proposals enabling developers to integrate easy and efficient tagging features to their applications.

The quality of the keyword proposals is getting better and better so we thought it's time to call our core product Smart Keywording with all demos and exemplary integrations of Smart Keywording into existing Applications beeing named Smart Keywording for "Name of the Application". So our new names are:

Smart Keywording
Smart Keywording for Aperture
Smart Keywording for the Web (short for webbrowser)

And our latest integration that we have just released:
Smart Keywording for ResourceSpace

Webtag shows how to integrate the Kreuzverweis Keyword Service and what it can do.

Proper funding is one of the corner stones for a successful startup company. Thus, we have been glad when we received the EXIST Forschungstransfer, a startup funding by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

We are now very happy to announce that Kreuzverweis has been accepted for the second stage (phase II) funding of this excellent program. Phase II funding enables us to efficiently continue with the development of our business and to focus on our main goal: Useful software services that make digital media assets findable!

As its name implies, webtag stands for our latest web-based keywording app that builds on our Keyword Service. Feel free to try it out and to tell us what you like or dislike, e.g. about the user interface, the keyword suggestions, the name, … as we make it better every week – no kidding, weekly release cycles.

We have a small stand at the International Semantic Web Conference 2011 that takes place in Bonn, Germany this year — starting October 22nd.
